An effective way to grow into a better engineer is to make technical and non-technical decisions in challenging situations. These decisions require you to draw on your skills, experience and confidence. A mentor can help you build your confidence and trust yourself when making those decisions and carrying them out.

We kicked off a 1:1 career mentorship pilot program (read: experiment). Nine mentors and nine mentees will use the Together Platform for a month-long test. We aim to assess participants’ return on time invested in these conversations, Together’s program, and its platform.

Three reasons to get a mentor (via Plato)

  1. Soundboard a challenge or problem you’re working through and get actionable advice.*
  2. Talk with someone who has been in your shoes and can share insights.*
  3. Level up. You’d like to be in a more senior role, so this is an opportunity to develop your communication, reframing, and listening skills.

Three reasons to become a mentor

  1. Pay it forward. I’m sure you had help getting to where you are now.
  2. It feels good. What’s not to like about seeing someone blossom with your advice? You’re going to get just as much out of this relationship as the mentee.
  3. Level up. You’re in a senior role, so this is an opportunity to learn, refine, and develop your communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
